If you’re going to travel outside of SoCal for Lindy exchange, I don’t think I can say enough good things about Fleur de Lindy and the French Quarter Festival.

While there are dances for Fleur de Lindy every night, I can honestly say that I’ve spent more time just dancing to one of the many wonderful bands around here than I have attending a specific Fleur de Lindy event.  New Orleans is definitely not short on live jazz music – my first night here I got to hear a jazz concert that broke out on the street from the comfort of my hotel room.

I’m staying in the French Quarter, which is the heart and soul of New Orleans.

So far my favorite thing that I’ve done has been dancing to the Preservation Hall Stars band.  They are more amazing than their album, and they had everyone in the crowd dancing.  During one of their brass band marches and a spontaneous second line broke out, complete with each dancers’ specially decorated umbrella.

There’s still three more days of dancing, live jazz music, and, of course, the incredible food.  Tomorrow night there’s a Fleur de Lindy dance at a wax museum and I’m sure it’s going to be just as amazing as the rest of this trip has been.
