Lindy hop - not just for the dance floor.

Lindy hop - not just for the dance floor.

Is it a bird?  Is it a plane?  No, it’s a Lindy Hopper!

Lindy Bombing simply means to swing dance at a venue that you normally would not swing dance (Lindy Hop) at, such as a park, a restaurant or the movie theater, just to name a few.  I can personally say that I have Lindy bombed movie theaters and restaurants, and one of my favorite Lindy bomb memories is dancing in the snow at Mammoth.

I came across this video (from the Seattle Vintage Jazz Dance Society’s Annual Music-Video Contest) and wanted to share it with everyone here.  This couple shows that Lindy bombs can (and should!) happen everywhere. I’m particularly impressed with their phone booth dance scene.

This video reminds me why we dance – because we LOVE it!  The sheer joy we dancers get dancing wherever and whenever we can is infectious, and, in my not-so-humble opinion, makes this world a little bit more fun to be in.

So in the spirit of Lindy hopping everywhere, let’s Lindy bomb the blog.  I’d love to see where you’ve Lindy bombed and what inspired you to Lindy bomb where and when you did.  Just email me your name, the story of your Lindy bomb, and your pictures or video  to justjess@grrlwriter.com and I’ll put them together in a post.  Until then – keep dancing!
